Editorial Policy

The standards behind our finance guides, articles, case studies and business intelligence.

Last updated: 14 October 2026

1. Our purpose and the scope of this policy

Our website helps UK business owners understand their funding options, prepare for conversations with finance providers and make informed decisions about their business goals.

This policy sets the editorial standards for our service and industry pages, location guides, Knowledge Hub articles, case studies, videos, downloadable guides and finance intelligence. It applies to new content and substantive updates. It describes the standards we require; it is not a claim that every historic page has already completed a fresh review.

Sorbus Finance Ltd is responsible for the content it publishes. Editorial oversight sits with Sorbus management, with relevant broker or credit-team input where a subject requires specialist knowledge. We do not invent authors, qualifications or reviewer endorsements.

2. Accuracy, evidence and sources

Factual claims must be supported by an appropriate source or verifiable business record. We prioritise legislation, government guidance, regulators, official statistics, original research and current finance-provider documentation over unsourced summaries.

  • Material statistics, regulatory statements and time-sensitive claims should identify their source and relevant date, with links where the source is publicly available.
  • Rates, costs, eligibility rules and timescales must be explained in context. Indicative figures are not personalised quotations or guarantees.
  • Facts, estimates, forecasts and opinion must be distinguishable. Where evidence is incomplete, we state the uncertainty rather than present an assumption as fact.
  • Location content must describe our actual coverage honestly and must not imply an office or local presence that does not exist.

When sources disagree, we consider their date, methodology and relevance. We should explain important limitations rather than selectively quote a figure that makes finance appear easier or cheaper.

3. Writing, review and publication

New content and material amendments must receive a human editorial review before publication. Review should check factual support, clarity, relevance to the intended audience, financial and regulatory wording, and consistency with our disclosures.

Technical finance topics require input from someone with relevant knowledge. If a specialist or compliance question remains unresolved, the content should remain a draft or clearly identify what has not been verified; a caveat is not a substitute for checking a material factual claim.

Named authors and reviewers must have genuinely contributed to the work. A publication, update or review date must reflect the corresponding action, not an automatic date change. Search visibility and AI readability must not take priority over accuracy or usefulness.

4. Our commercial interests and disclosures

Sorbus Finance is a commercial broker and introducer, not a lender or an independent news publisher. Our content can explain services that we offer, and we may receive commission when finance completes. Readers should not interpret educational content as an independent whole-of-market recommendation.

Commercial relationships must not be used to justify unsupported claims, conceal material limitations or present a paid placement as neutral editorial advice. Any sponsored content, paid placement or affiliate relationship must be clearly identified where it appears.

Read our Initial Disclosure Document and Commission Disclosure for the applicable brokerage and remuneration information. These disclosures take precedence over a general editorial summary.

5. Case studies, examples and customer privacy

Case studies presented as real transactions must be supported by genuine records. Amounts, timing and outcomes must not be embellished. Customer identities, photographs, quotations or identifying details must not be published without the appropriate permission and privacy checks.

Anonymised case studies should say that details have been anonymised. Hypothetical, illustrative or combined examples must be labelled as such and must not be represented as a single real customer transaction.

A previous funding result is not evidence that another applicant will obtain the same amount, rate, approval or timescale. Images must not misleadingly imply that a pictured person, business or asset is the actual customer or subject of a transaction.

6. Data, tools and finance intelligence

Published analysis should explain the source, period covered and important methodological limitations. Our interpretation must remain distinguishable from the underlying data, and proprietary analysis must not be described as an official statistic.

Calculators and comparison tools provide estimates based on stated inputs and assumptions. They are not lender offers or eligibility decisions. Forecasts and scenarios must be labelled, and material changes to a methodology should be explained rather than silently presented as comparable results.

Use of our finance intelligence is also subject to the Finance Intelligence Licence.

7. Responsible use of AI

AI tools may assist with research organisation, drafting, summaries or presentation. They are not authoritative sources and do not replace human responsibility for the content we publish.

AI-assisted factual claims, calculations, citations and financial wording must be checked against reliable evidence. We must not publish fabricated references, customer stories, quotations, qualifications or reviewer identities. Material AI-generated illustrations or synthetic examples should be identified when their nature could otherwise mislead a reader.

Confidential customer information must not be put into an AI tool without appropriate authorisation and data-protection safeguards.

8. Updates and corrections

Content should be reviewed periodically and when material changes to finance-provider criteria, law, regulation, source data or our services become known. Time-sensitive content may become outdated between reviews; readers should check the source date and confirm current terms before acting.

To report an error, email hello@sorbusfinance.co.uk with the page URL, the statement concerned and any supporting evidence. We assess reports, check the underlying sources and correct, clarify or withdraw content where warranted.

Material corrections should be explained on the affected page, with an appropriate update date, rather than silently changing a substantive statement. Minor spelling, formatting or broken-link repairs do not necessarily require a correction notice. We do not promise a fixed response time in this policy.

For a complaint about our service rather than an editorial error, please use our Complaints Procedure.

9. Information, not a finance offer

Website content provides general information, not personalised financial, tax or legal advice. It is not an offer of credit. Finance providers determine eligibility, approval, rates and final terms; these depend on the applicant, product and circumstances.

Consider affordability, total costs, security requirements and the consequences of any personal guarantee before entering an agreement. Seek appropriate professional advice where needed.
