CNC machining centre finance for five-axis investment
CNC machining centre finance can spread the acquisition cost of a new or used machine for precision engineering work. For five-axis purchases, Sorbus helps present the machine, supplier quotation and production business case to suitable lenders on its panel. Finance is subject to the business, asset and lender assessment, not simply the machine price.
Request a conversationPurchase price and total funding requirement
Obtain a configuration-specific quotation. Work envelope, spindle specification, control, simultaneous-axis capability, probing, pallet automation and tooling can change the installed cost substantially. DMG MORI describes five-axis equipment and its own financing, but the source does not establish a comparable UK cash-price range. We therefore do not present an unevidenced starting price. Separate machine value from CAM licences, foundations, lifting, training and consumables. Some of these costs may not be accepted as asset security.
Indicative only. Deposits, terms and structures depend on the asset, the business and funder criteria.
Before you commit to a supplier
- Identify the exact model, build year, serial number, control and whether the machine is simultaneous five-axis or 3+2.
- Supply the tooling and automation schedule, commissioning plan and the amount payable before delivery. Agree any deposit risk before signing a non-refundable order.
- Explain the work won or anticipated, realistic spindle utilisation, margins and operator/programming resources. A forecast is not a confirmed customer order.
- For used machines, obtain spindle hours, maintenance records, geometry or acceptance-test results and confirmation of transferable software rights.
What lenders may ask about your business
Prepare filed and current management accounts, bank statements, cash-flow forecasts, existing commitments and the proposed deposit. Time trading, performance, credit history, asset valuation, supplier credentials and the commercial purpose all affect assessment. A recently established business may have fewer options. Criteria differ: neither approval, a particular term nor a rate is guaranteed. The amount financed can differ from the purchase price after VAT, trade-in settlement, deposits and costs the lender does not accept.
Financing a used five-axis cnc machining centre finance
Used five-axis machines can be considered, but a lender may seek an inspection and independent valuation. A low asking price does not establish working accuracy or clear title. Check spindle condition, rotary axes, control support and whether tooling, probes and licences transfer. Remaining service life, relocation costs and dealer warranty affect the decision; there is no universal age or hours limit.
An illustrative example
Hypothetical example: an engineering subcontractor wants to bring complex aluminium parts in-house. It separates the machining centre and pallet system from software and site work, tests the business case against its existing outsourcing costs, and presents a supplier acceptance plan. A lender could accept some elements and require the business to pay others. No saving, approval or funding amount is assumed.
Hypothetical scenario for illustration, not a real client or a quote.
Common finance options
- Hire purchase
- You pay instalments and title normally passes to the business only once all contractual payments, and any option-to-purchase fee, have been paid.
- Finance lease
- The funder owns the asset and you rent it for the agreed term. There is no automatic transfer of ownership; end-of-term options depend on the agreement.
- Operating lease
- Only possible where a funder will take a residual value view on the asset. Return conditions, hours or usage limits usually apply.
- Refinance / sale and HP back
- Releasing capital from equipment you already own may be considered, subject to valuation and the funder's criteria.

Questions about five-axis cnc machining centre finance
Can I finance a £150,000 CNC machining centre?+
A purchase at that value can be discussed. The amount advanced depends on the quotation, deposit, VAT, valuation and business assessment. The figure is a purchase scenario, not a machine-price claim or approval threshold.
Can a used five-axis machining centre be financed?+
Potentially. The exact machine, service history, accuracy, support and resale evidence matter. Provide serial details and a dealer quotation before committing.
Can tooling and CAM software go into the agreement?+
Ask for an itemised package. A lender may accept identifiable tooling but treat software subscriptions, training and consumables differently. Do not assume the whole invoice qualifies.
Is CNC hire purchase different from finance leasing?+
Hire purchase is ownership-focused after all contractual payments and any option requirements. A finance lease pays for use and does not automatically transfer ownership. Compare total costs and end-of-term obligations.
What determines the deposit and CNC finance rate?+
Credit assessment, asset value, supplier, term and business performance influence the offer. There is no universal deposit or published Sorbus rate for five-axis machines.
Can a small engineering company buy an imported machine?+
Size alone does not decide eligibility. Overseas purchases add currency, title, delivery and acceptance risks. Identify the supplier and payment stages early; obtain written lender acceptance before paying.
