Asset finance for professional athletes and the people who advise them
Sorbus Finance helps professional athletes turn their asset plans into a clearer finance conversation, with access to relevant lenders and a broker to help present the case. We support company borrowing and personal enquiries where the athlete meets the high-net-worth criteria, working alongside agents and existing advisers where requested. All finance is subject to eligibility checks, status and lender criteria.
Broker support to help you move forward
Access to relevant lenders, help presenting your circumstances and a broker to explain the next step: that is the value Sorbus brings to your enquiry.
Personal borrowing is a separate route from company finance. Sports professionals who meet the high-net-worth criteria may enquire personally, subject to eligibility checks and lender criteria. Sporting status alone does not establish eligibility.
Why bring your finance plans to Sorbus?
Your sporting career does not have to fit a standard salary pattern to start a useful conversation. Sorbus brings lender knowledge, help preparing the case and access to an extensive panel of 150+ lenders. We identify relevant options according to the borrower, asset and lender criteria, rather than assume every panel lender can meet every requirement.
We welcome athletes and their agents across football, rugby, cricket, tennis, motorsport, golf and boxing. Football car-finance enquiries are limited to England’s Premier League or Championship, or the Scottish Premiership (Scottish Premier League). Whatever the sport, we discuss the asset you want, how your income works and the next steps, without treating sporting status as finance approval.
Put your sporting income in context
Contract dates, variable earnings and commercial agreements can take more explanation than a conventional salary. Our role is to help you present that picture clearly, separating contracted income from future possibilities and explaining which borrower receives the money. You have a broker to discuss the evidence with before approaching a relevant lender.
That can be particularly useful after an overseas move or where a UK credit file is limited. We can help you understand which details matter and where more evidence may be needed, rather than leave you to approach lenders without context. The assessment still rests with the lender, and not every requirement will have a finance route.
- Contract-based pay with a known end date
- Variable elements such as bonuses, prize money and fees
- Shorter careers than most lending models assume
- Thin or no UK credit file, especially after an overseas move
Finance arranged through the athlete's company
We arrange business finance for the athlete's company, which might be a trading limited company, an image-rights company or a personal service company. The borrower is the company, so lenders look at its accounts, its income streams and its ability to meet repayments. The athlete's personal wages from a club or team are separate from the company, and lenders will treat them separately.
Directors may be asked for a personal guarantee, which can make them personally liable if the company cannot pay. That is an important point to understand before going ahead, and it is one we explain plainly at the start.
Company structure is a general topic here, not advice. Speak to your accountant or tax adviser about the right structure for you.
What the guides cover
Each guide in this hub looks at one part of the picture. Start with contract income if you want to understand how lenders read a playing contract. Read the overseas guide if a UK credit file is thin. The structuring guide explains balloon payments, early settlement and what happens if a contract ends early or a transfer goes through. Agents and advisers have their own page covering referrals and the information we ask for, and the FAQ answers common questions about company finance.
Start with what you want to achieve
Tell us about the asset you have in mind, your timing and who would borrow. We can discuss relevant lender options, explain the evidence needed and help you understand the next step. The initial enquiry is not an application and involves no credit search or obligation.
Use the short form or speak to the Sorbus Prestige team directly, with your agent or existing advisers involved where you wish. If more evidence is needed or the timing is not right, we will explain that before you pursue an application. You can start the conversation before choosing a particular asset.
