Tesla Model 3 Finance UK: New & Used Buying Guide

Compare new and used Tesla Model 3 finance in the UK. Understand HP, balloon HP and PCP, plus battery checks, warranty evidence, charging and ownership costs.

The short answer

How should I approach finance on a Tesla Model 3?

A Tesla Model 3 is an electric saloon whose configurations have changed over time, so start by identifying the exact version, year and first-registration date. Then match the agreement to your commute and annual mileage, check how you will charge, gather battery and warranty evidence for a used car, and get an insurance quote. You can use Tesla partner finance or arrange your own; compare both on the same car, price and deposit. Sorbus is an independent broker, not a lender and not connected to Tesla.

Which Model 3 is being financed?

Tesla presents Model 3 as an electric saloon, but the version on sale, its equipment and its quoted figures vary by period. A lender assesses one specific car, so the proposal should name the version, model year, first-registration date and, for a used car, the VIN and mileage.

Treat any range figure as a WLTP test result rather than a real-world guarantee. Tesla itself says real-world range depends on use and conditions; a finance broker cannot confirm what range a given car will achieve for you.

  • Version and model year on the order or invoice, with registration identifiers checked against the V5C
  • First-registration date, which can affect remaining warranty
  • Mileage and service or repair history for a used car

How do commute, mileage and charging affect the choice?

Annual mileage matters where an agreement has mileage conditions. Tesla partner PCP, for example, links its optional return to mileage and condition. Hire purchase generally does not impose PCP-style excess-mileage charges, but lenders can still assess expected use and mileage, and high mileage affects resale value. Check the written agreement.

Charging is a running cost, not a finance term, yet it shapes affordability. Work out whether you will charge at home, at work or publicly before setting a monthly budget, and include insurance, tyres and servicing.

What should a used Model 3 buyer check?

Tesla states that the vehicle-specific warranty document is authoritative, and battery and drive unit cover differs by version, first registration and mileage. Ask for that document and battery health evidence before paying a deposit.

Tesla’s additional used-vehicle warranty applies only to qualifying cars bought directly from Tesla. A Model 3 from an independent dealer or private seller should not be assumed to carry the same cover.

  • Battery health report or evidence from the seller
  • Written remaining warranty terms for this car
  • Title and outstanding finance check with a settlement route

Tesla partner finance or independent finance?

Tesla offers PCP, hire purchase, conditional sale and contract hire through its partners, and confirms you can arrange your own finance instead. Each product has different ownership and end-of-term rights.

Independent finance is not always cheaper than a manufacturer promotion. Compare like for like, and remember that independent balloon HP does not automatically include a PCP-style guaranteed future value or handback.

Sorbus can present the exact Model 3, seller and your ownership objective to suitable panel lenders, then explain available written proposals alongside an existing quote. This is particularly useful when a used car is sold outside Tesla or when you want to understand a different deposit or term. Availability remains subject to lender assessment.

Using a Model 3 for business

A sole trader or company may be able to finance a Model 3, subject to lender assessment of the business, vehicle and use.

Tax and accounting treatment depends on circumstances and the rules in force when you buy. Ask your accountant before choosing a structure; we do not quote tax savings.

In practice

How to compare your Model 3 quotes

Start with the same Model 3 and cash price, then record any manufacturer contribution and its conditions. Put each deposit, payment schedule, fee and final payment side by side. Adding the deposit, scheduled payments and fees gives a clearer view than the monthly figure alone; check that no fee is counted twice.

Compare the end position separately. HP is an ownership route once all payments, fees and conditions are met. PCP includes a conditional return option, while independent balloon HP leaves a debt without automatic handback. A lower payment under a different product is not, by itself, evidence of better value.

Common questions

Can Sorbus review a Tesla Model 3 finance quote?

Yes. Share the exact Model 3 specification and cash price, quote date and expiry, any contribution conditions, deposit, payment schedule, fees, final payment and total payable. Sorbus can explain available panel proposals alongside it, including ownership and return rights. A comparison does not guarantee savings or approval.

Can I finance a Tesla Model 3 without using Tesla’s finance partners?

Yes. Tesla’s UK support pages confirm self-arranged finance is possible. Confirm how and when the lender’s funds must reach Tesla or the seller before you commit.

Does the WLTP range figure matter to a lender?

A lender assesses the car, applicant and transaction under its own criteria. WLTP is a standard test figure, not a guarantee of real-world range, so use it for comparison rather than as a promise.

Will a used Model 3 from a dealer have Tesla’s used-vehicle warranty?

Not automatically. That additional cover applies to qualifying cars bought directly from Tesla. Check the vehicle-specific warranty document for the exact car.

Is hire purchase or balloon HP better for a Model 3?

It depends on whether you want to own the car, your budget and whether you can meet any final balance. Balloon HP lowers regular payments but leaves a debt at the end, without a guaranteed future value.

Does high mileage affect Model 3 finance?

It can matter for agreements with mileage conditions, such as PCP, and for the car’s value. Tell the broker your expected annual mileage so the structure fits.

Is Sorbus Finance connected to Tesla?

No. Sorbus Finance is an independent credit broker, not Tesla Financial Services, not a Tesla authorised partner and not a lender. We compare lenders within our selected panel; not every lender on it will finance every Tesla or transaction.
